Music at Musings: Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Twice a year, the Mobile Cinema comes to my school. (Bet you didn't expect to read that first sentence!) Last year, first year, our year saw Marley & Me (It was OK) and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. I knew of the book series, but I hadn't read it, because I don't read a lot of Pink Lit, apart from Jacqueline Wilson, Cathy Cassidy, Lisa Clark, Meg Cabot... OK, maybe I do read Pink Lit. But that's not the point.

The film? I thought the lead actress's accent was unbearable (my apologies if anyone actually speaks like that, but I don't get much chance to talk to English girls my age from seaside towns who find their lives unbearable and have a cat) and the character of Georgia fussed way too much over little things, but Georgia Groome gave a very natural, wholesome performance that you could easily recognise. But the best thing about the film was the music. Seriously. So, thanks to iTunes (what would I do without it?) I found myself in love (I know I keep saying that, but I do love this!) with seventeen of the best songs I have ever come across, for €9.99. (Probably less in pounds. I hate exchange rates.)

Seventeen songs, some poppy and cute with xylophones (xylophones!!!) , some indie rock you can headbang to, and some slow, sad love songs that make me cry. All fantastic! Oh, and the two Stiff Dylans songs, Ultraviolet and Ever Fallen In Love are on it too! These are some of my favourite songs on the soundtrack:

Lenka - The Show

I'm sorry this is only a link, but there's two official videos for this fabulous song, but the one with Lenka in it is terrible, and embedding was removed on Youtube for this one, which frankly is much more brilliant.

P.S. A little Quote Of The Week here; my mom was telling my dad and I about someone's niece getting top marks in university, in her early twenties, and throwing it all away to go to a closed nunnery in England, not even leaving for Christmas! And I said 'You shouldn't become a nun until you're eighty, then you've nothing else to live for except God.' I just want to remember that...

Dear Mary Coughlan...

I honestly have no idea why you are Minister for Education. I mean, when was the last time you went to school?...See, you can't remember. Exactly!

But the point of this letter is to complain about the Junior Certificate Gaeilge course, more specifically the poems. I like poetry. Well, not all of it: 'I wandered lonely as a cloud' doesn't exactly fill my heart with joy. But my copy of Fonn 3 contains this ridiculous excuse for a poem, translated from the Gaeilge:

The Ozone

I am the ozone
Here in the middle of the sky.
God made me long ago
To save you
From too much sun
And other ugly things.

I am telling you
To give care
To your neighbourhood,
To the world
Because you live there
And it depends on you.

Do not destroy anything
That you created
Take my advice
And you'll survive.
We will all survive
As we were meant to.

I'm not saying that I don't care about the environment, because I do. My family gets really annoyed with me about it sometimes. It's just a HORRIBLE poem. Perhaps if you improved the quality of your poems, students would be more enthusiastic about learning them? Because I don't know how I'm going to sit through this for the next couple of weeks...

Yours sincerely,

Eleanor Roscuro

Inspiro-Girls - Britney Spears

I'm hoping you all know Britney Spears. (If you don't, please crawl back under your rock and eat your stash of beetles.) I'm not a big fan really, I think she's too promiscuous for my liking. But recently she did a photoshoot with Candie's, a fashion line in America for pre-teen and teenage girls, and she agreed to release the before photos along with the photoshopped photos for comparison to highlight the pressure to look perfect in the industry.

I got the photos from MessyCarla:

Quite a difference, isn't there? Look, her hair is shinier and blonder, her arms are thinner, her body is tanned, her breasts are bigger and her tummy and hips are smaller, and her legs... well, they're completely unnatural! Look at them!

Another photo... Here, her tummy and back have been sucked in, her bum is smaller, her legs are smooth, her breasts have been lifted, cellulite zapped, and if you look closely at her lower back, her tattoo has mysteriously disappeared...

And now I think Britney's not that bad really. And for doing that heroic act, she is now one of my Inspiro-Girls!

I've just checked, and this makes my 100th post! Huzzah! Thanks for sticking with me everyone!

High-Fives,

Oh, Happy Day...

I've been nominated for an award! From Ariella! Yay! I actually can't write much now, because it's 00:43 Greenwich Mean Time (Dublin) and my left foot has pins and needles (Ow...). I'm a little vague on the rules, but I think you need to nominate others and state ten things you like...
So I nominate: Derek Landy Blogs Under Duress (http://dereklandy.blogspot.com/), French For Cupcake (http://frenchforcupcake.blogspot.com/), The Blog Of Kells (http://theblogofkells.blogspot.com/), Hello Fascination (http//bubblepopelectro.blogspot.com/) and My Life Between The Lockers (http://schools-joy.blogspot.com/)!
And now, things I like:
  • Kilkenny. Duh.
  • London. I've only been twice, but I'm going to live there one day. It's so... cosmopolitan!
  • Acting. I'm an egotistical person, dahling...
  • Writing. What better way for one who's no good at art to express herself?
  • Ireland. All the other countries want to be like us. Heh heh heh...
  • Books. Again, duh.
  • Bonbons. Well, there are worse things to be addicted to...
  • All my friends at Kilkenny Youth Theatre. We even have our own theme tune - Take On Me by Aha. We sing to the chorus tunelessly. It's fun, and most of the boys can hit the high notes! (I don't count, being a girl. Which reminds me...)
  • Being a girl. Again, duh.
  • My iPod. It has all my favourite songs on it, and it's BLUE.

I'm going to celebrate now, and get the circulation in my foot going again!

High-Fives,

EleanorLight

Quote Of The Week #7

When life gives you lemons... SHUT UP AND EAT YOUR GODDAMN LEMONS!!!!

That's my friend Johnny. I just love that quote so much!

As you might guess from my recent posts, I've got the play on the brain... three days until the opening night!

Quote Of The Week #6

I’ve started telling kids that Twitter is dangerous, it wastes your life and you should be outside playing sports instead of sitting in front of any type of screen! Everything is so much better when you’re not wrapped up in that.

Miley Cyrus, who’s given up Tweeting. And she won't even read the book that was written for her, The Last Song?
